REVIVAL AND MISSIONS PARTNERS WITH COVINGTON THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY 2006 saw the start of a formal partnership arrangement between Covington Theological Seminary and Revival and Missions International for the education of national pastors in several countries and also the formation of a special arrangement for another country. Covington Theological Seminary is located in Rossville, Georgia just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Dr. Joe Youngblood received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Covington Theological Seminary in 2004. He is also studying and is near completion of the requirements for the Doctor of Theology degree. Covington Theological Seminary and Revival and Missions International have formed a formal partnership to educate national pastors in Zimbabwe, Honduras, and Romania. This partnership is the fruit of almost two years of praying and planning. Dr. Steve Sullivan, President of Covington Seminary and Dr. Joe Youngblood began to pray and discuss the possibility of the partnership in September, 2004. From this partnership Dr. Youngblood has accepted the position of Dean of the International Extensions. Dr. Youngblood also serves as the Dean of the Aiken, South Carolina extension of Covington Theological Seminary. Dr. Youngblood serving in theses two capacities fits well into the mission statement of Revival and Missions International. One of the four aspects of the ministry is the education of national pastors. Brother Joe has been involved in the education of pastors since the start of the ministry in 2001. He serves as the Dean of the Aiken Extension and the international extensions on a voluntary basis. This arrangement allows him to be able to fulfill all four aspects of the ministry. The Aiken Extension began in January of 2005 and has had over sixty different students to register and attend. In July 2006, the first students from the Aiken Extension will graduate from Covington Theological Seminary. The international extensions of Covington Theological Seminary offer three different degree programs. The Batchelor of Theology, Master of Theology and the Doctor of Theology degrees are offered at all the extensions. The Batchelor of Theology degree is the degree that most of the international pastors are enrolled in. The format and concept for the international extensions is for each extension to meet four times a year, once each quarter of the calendar, for a week of instruction. During the week the pastors/students will receive fifty hours of classroom instruction, twenty-five hours for each of the two courses they will be taking. Following the week of classroom instruction the students have to answer a questionnaire set of questions that are based upon the textbook. The courses normally have between two hundred and four hundred questions based upon the size and length of the textbook. The students also have to write a thesis based upon the subject of study. All this has to be completed prior to the start of the next teaching session. The completion of the requirements for a course requires a lot of work, study and sacrifice on the part of each student. The extension in Honduras has over seventy students enrolled and has met twice this year, once in January and April, with the remaining two times to be in August and November. The Romanian extension has also met twice, once in February and once in May. The remaining two times for the Romanian extension to meet in 2006 are during the months of September and November. The Romanian extension also has over seventy pastors/students enrolled. The country of Zimbabwe has three extensions, one in each of the cities of Harare, Bulwaylo and Victoria Falls. Almost two hundred pastors are enrolled in the three Zimbabwean extensions. Dr. Steve Sullivan and Brother Joe have just returned, on June 19, from meeting and organizing with the students in each city. The three Zimbabwean extensions will hold their first week of classroom instruction during the week of September 11-15 and their final week of instruction in 2006 will be November 13-17. Brother Joe has three primary responsibilities as it regards the international extensions, which are: A. Administrative oversight of the extensions. Brother Joe oversees and directs the work of each of the national deans. Each extension/country has a national dean whose ministry is directed by Brother Joe. B. Recruiting of the classroom professors. Brother Joe is responsible for recruiting, equipping and making the arrangements for the classroom professors for each extension. The concept for the three extensions calls for a total of eight professors for Romania, four professors for Honduras and sixteen professors and twelve graders for the Zimbabwean extensions. A total of forty professors and graders will be needed each year. C. Raising of support for the extensions. The education of the national pastors is a faith-based mission ministry for Covington Theological Seminary. One of the responsibilities that Brother Joe has assumed is the raising of funds to purchase the textbooks for the extensions. For both Covington Theological Seminary and Revival and Missions International the education of the national pastors is a faith-based mission ministry. There are three ways in which you or your church could become involved in this exciting and new mission ministry, which are: A. Prayer. Please pray much for the extensions, the deans of each extension, the pastor/students, Dr. Steve Sullivan and Brother Joe Youngblood as they seek to sever God in their various capacities. B. Financial support. It has been determined that it will take about one hundred and ten dollars ($110) to supply a national pastor with the required eight textbooks a year. You can make a tax-deductible donation to Revival and Missions International for the purchase of the textbooks. This can be done by a church, a Sunday School class, a mission organization or by an individual. Please indicate on your check that it is for the purchase of textbooks. Please contact Brother Joe for more information on this special financial need. C. Teaching or grading. As stated above, forty professors/graders will be needed to meet the needs of the extensions. Please pray and ask God if He would have you to serve as teaching professor or grader. Please contact Brother Joe for the requirements to serve as a professor or grader.
